And the new King is being crowned today!

Day 22 Groede

Monday, 29 April 2013

Strandcamping Breskens.
Over 400 miles and 71/2 hours but I think we've missed the rain. Got to the site before reception closed so we're on our pitch hoping for 5 days of sun and cycling ( and I'm sure a few coffees in the town) and maybe a trip to the quilting shop. Fabulous job by Mart who's now having a beer !

Day 22 Alsace

Eguisheim a beautiful medieval town in the heart of Alsace. Lunch in a town centre restaurant AND its dry. Will do a tour of the sights this afternoon.

Day 22 Colmar

Saturday, 27 April 2013

Coldest day yet! Done a lot of reading. Heading for Colmar tomorrow and the temperature should be rising.

Day 21 Ottenbach

When we finally found the road for San Berdino Pass - no really - there is huge road rebuilding going on and appalling if not missing diversion signs- we made it to Switzerland and a small town near Zurich called Ottenbach. Will stay another day and do some sightseeing if the weather holds otherwise off to the Alsace area!

Day 20 Lake Maggiore

Thursday, 25 April 2013

A lazy day by the lake today. Very sunny but quite fresh. Surprised to see new snow on the mountains this morning!

Day 19 Arcumeggia

Wednesday, 24 April 2013

Breakfast in the sun!
Busy day off to Arolo and the hermitage at Santa Caterina del Sasso.
Then an old town on a very high hill with a VERY narrow twisty road leading to it. Arcumeggia where for some reason people paint frescos on the walls of the houses! Narrow cobbled streets. And then to Angera to the castle Rocco Borromeo. Back to site to sit in the sun!

Day 18 Lake Maggiore

Off to Lake Maggiore. A long drive but the weathers better. Fairly basic site but our pitch overlooks the lake.

Day 17 Simione

Monday, 22 April 2013

Rained most of today but as it eased we thought wed head for the old town of Sirimione .

Day 16 Lake Garda

Sunday, 21 April 2013

250 miles to Lake Garda this morning. Unfortunately it's rained most of the day and the temperature had plummeted. Nice site on the lake - just had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Hope to get out to a market tomorrow just not sure how as the forecast is still bad!

Day 15 Pisa

Saturday, 20 April 2013

It rained quite hard overnight and till about 10 so we waited till then to head for the bus. The bus driver was extremely helpful telling us where to buy a cheaper ticket and the number of the route. We think! It was all in Italian! Then he forgot our stop - dropped us at a stop to return us to the station where we waited 15 mins and he picked us back up which he thought was very funny!! Anyway we caught a train and are now in Pisa! And the sun has come out. Sian and Paul - it's like being in a Montalbano episode!!

Day 14 Viareggio

Friday, 19 April 2013

Viareggio. Nothing really here using it as a stop for Pisa. Cycled 14 miles along the coast but it is very built up and definitely a holiday spot for Italians!

Day 13 Lingura Finale

Thursday, 18 April 2013

Nice slow day. Cycled into the town and found a huge market. Coffee in the square half the price of France! Realised we don't know much Italian so I've had to download a dictionary !

Day 12 Eze

Wednesday, 17 April 2013

Packed up and headed to the high picturesque town of Eze. A walk and a coffee later its off on the road again and now we're in Italy - Finale Ligure. Lovely spot and quiet, near the sea. Nice large empty swimming pool.

Day 11 Grasse

Headed in land to the centre of the perfume industry . Grasse. Had a walk round the old town with its narrow twisty streets and a guided tour round a perfume factory. And no I didn't buy any! Oh and a small tip for those campers among you - don't have a shower only to then realise your towel is on the back of the van in the sun!!

Day 10 Monaco

Tuesday, 16 April 2013

And we were talked into driving to Monaco by a man on the site! Ok but parking?!! There was a tennis event on and most parking is underground. The challenge is to know before you've committed if the van will go under the barrier. Well we managed that and had a walk around the harbour - the boats are huge - and then went into the Grimaldi palace . Wow they've got some wealth. Then to the town where they were busy erecting stands and barriers for the Grand prix. When we left we drove some of the track! Someone was very happy! Came back through the high village of Eze and Nice. Still low 20's which is cold here for the time of year.

Day 9 Antibes

Sunday, 14 April 2013

And off to Antibes! Drove the coast road which was lovely except everyone that enters the Tour de France must have been doing the same twisty route that meant progress was slow and there weren't places to take photos.
Site just outside the town so we made camp and set off on our bikes. Lovely town with HUGE boats in the harbour .

Day 8 St.Tropez

Saturday, 13 April 2013

Up early to catch the ferry to St Tropez market. Had a coffee each for €11! Nice town.
In the afternoon cycled in the blistering heat to St Maxime. Very busy there was a jet ski race on. Lots of people on the beach looking like lobsters! They're going to hurt tonight! They still sell sun tan oil here- 0 SPF!!

Day 7 Provence

Friday, 12 April 2013

And off we go further south through the pretty Provence town of Aups where we stopped for coffee.
And on to Port Grimaud . Nice site (out of season) and the village (port) itself looks purpose built but quite quaint.
Sunny and 20 degs!

Day 6 Gorge du Verdon

Thursday, 11 April 2013

Gorge du Verdon! With up to 10 eagles soaring overhead.

Day 5 Moustier

Wednesday, 10 April 2013

Left Avignon and headed west for the Pont du Gard a roman bridge. We then headed back east and after a journey on twisty roads ended up in the town of Moustier St Marie. Lovely site with one other van on it and it was English! Had a steep climb to the beautiful church built high above the village. Temps up to 20 although its dropping back tonight. Tomorrow of to the lake and Gorges du Verdon

Day 4 Avignon

Tuesday, 9 April 2013

After quite a late start! Well we are on holiday - we headed for the city and we've walked and walked. Sun keeps coming out and the temperatures gone up to a heady 15 degrees.

Day 3 Avignon

Due to the weather we decided to drive as far south as possible. Arrived at the stunning walled town of Avignon. Same as the song 'sur le pont du Avignon ' for those that know it! 13 degs and rising!

Day 2 Langres

Sunday, 7 April 2013

Headed to Langres a walled town. Stopped for a look around and coffee but of course it's Sunday and cold so France is closed! So we've headed to Mc.Donalds: coffee and Internet!

Day 1 Saint Dixier

Friday, 5 April 2013

Up early creating this blog at the last minute!

Headed south as fast as we could but to no avail! The temperature hardly changed. Headed to our first site which was supposed to open 1st April but think it was a joke as it was totally deserted. Luckily we'd seen signs to another near Saint Dixier and headed there. That too looked deserted but we finally made the owner aware of our presence she found us a pitch for the night!
We were woken by her cockerel!
